CALL TO WORSHIP: PSALM 105:1–4

1 Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 4 Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

CONFESSION OF SIN

O Lord, you have mercy upon all—take away from me my sins, and mercifully kindle in me the fire of your Holy Spirit. Take away from me the heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh, a heart to love and adore you, a heart to delight in you, to follow and to enjoy you, for Christ’s sake. Amen.

Ambrose

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

–John 3:16

WORSHIP TOGETHER

PERSONAL REFLECTION: MARK 3:7-19

7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. 8 When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. 9 Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10 For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him. 13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it look like for you (and your family) to be near Jesus in 2026?

  2. What do you make of the thought of being wanted by Jesus before you do anything for him?

  3. Where is Jesus on mission around you? How can you join in?

  4. In what ways do you need to embrace the community of believers in 2026 and beyond?

  5. What rhythms or habits do you need to establish to be with Jesus in 2026? What do you need to let go of? What do you need to repent of?

FAMILY DISCUSSION - FOLLOW THE LEADER

Family Discussion Questions:

  1. When Jesus called his disciples to follow him, he called them to come and share life with him. What do you think it was like to follow Jesus? If you were walking with Jesus back then, what question would you ask him?

  2. Why do you think Jesus choose ordinary people to follow him instead of the most powerful and famous?

  3. Why do you think the disciples decided to follow Jesus?

  4. What do you think it looks like to follow Jesus today?

CLOSE IN PRAYER

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever. Amen.
